Position sensor is a method or a way that allows measuring of a position. These could be either definite position or displaced position. There are several types of position sensors and we will discuss it one by one.

1- Electronic proximity sensors. In it electricity creates a magnetic field and creates a current to exhibit its presence. As you know, metals are highly inductors of electricity so these sensors are designed to detect metals. These sensors are used in electronic car wash, traffic lights and metal detectors.

2- String potentiometer. This sensor device is designed to understand linear position and velocity with the aid of flexible cable. Basically, it is used to recognize moving objects and cable serve the purpose of its connection.

3- Linear Variable Differential transformer. As obvious from the name it is for measurement of linear displacements or variations.

4- Hall Effect sensors. In it variations come due to alteration in magnetic field.

5- Proximity sensors. That does not require any physical contact with the object and a beam of electromagnetic radiation actually work. The distance to which that sensors works is called the range of that specific object. These sensors are reliable and durable because of no mechanical parts in it.

6- Piezoelectric sensors: in these sensors some particles such as crystals, glass, ceramics and born can be used to generate an action potential to respond to any mechanical stress. This effect is reversible depending on the type of particles you''re using in your device. It has huge list of its usages.

7- Photo iodide sensors. They transform light into voltage and are used very commonly in almost all fields of life.

These days these position sensors are playing a very important role in automobile industry. Multifunctional capabilities of nearly introduced caused by famous brands is only possible due to the sensors. Before the arrival of navigators, drivers on the road have to remember all the places around for their customers but now due to the presence of GPS system and navigation devices in cars made Journey convenient for everybody and now you can go to any unknown place with the guidance of maps and other people. Moreover, GPS system due to presence of these position devices can also identify your vehicle in case of theft and robbery.
